Employment Reference |
What It Reveals |
This differs from an employment verification. The reference is an attempt to get an indication of the applicant’s previous performance, strengths and weaknesses, and their eligibility to be rehired. The reference may be checked with a former supervisor, or with a peer. |
Why is it Important? |
This allows a potential employer to gain more assurance that the applicant will be a good fit for the company, and will provide more realistic performance expectations. |
Notes about this Information |
A potential employer is better able to demonstrate due diligence in the hiring process is references are performed. Again, many previous employers may not be willing to give information other than confirmation of the dates of employment and title. |
